The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres, in connection with the global fight against the new coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) stressed that the world should be united and focus against the common enemy, COVID-19.
Guterres spoke at the opening of the 7th Mediation Conference being held in Istanbul, via videoconference.
"At the moment we are also facing a pandemic of polarization and separation," he said, citing online activity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The world must come together and focus on the common enemy, COVID-19. "That is why I called for a global ceasefire that will help us focus on the political process and our support for peace," Guterres said of the global fight against the coronavirus.
The conference, which will discuss the challenges faced by people working in the field of peace since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, will discuss in detail how the pandemic will affect conflict dynamics.
