The German presidency of the EU should focus on environmental and climate policies in its recovery plan from COVID-19, said today the German Minister of Environment, Svenja Schulze.
"I want to play my part in ensuring that, over the next six months, we combine crisis recovery with climate action and nature conservation," she said.
The Minister stressed the need to achieve the EU goal of Europe being the first continent with zero greenhouse gases by 2050, so the climate target should be raised to 50-55% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions instead of 40%- current shit.
Germany will chair the European Council for six months, starting on July 1st, following Croatia's departure.
In this capacity, Germany will chair meetings of EU ministers at each level of the Council.
