Louis Vuitton Malletier, commonly referred to as Louis Vuitton or abbreviated to LV, is one of the most famous French fashion houses and luxury goods founded in 1854 by Louis Vuitton. The LV label monograph appears on most of its products, from small luxury accessories and leather goods to ready-made garments, shoes, watches, jewelry, accessories, sunglasses, etc.… Louis Vuitton is one of the leading houses of international fashion, which for six years in a row, from 2006–2012, was named the most valuable luxury brand in the world. Its estimate for 2012 was $ 25.9 billion. The company operates in 50 countries with more than 460 stores worldwide.
Louis Vuitton is one of the most successful but also the most counterfeit brands in the fashion world due to its image and elite status. In 2004, Louis Vuitton accounted for 18% of counterfeit accessories seized in the European Union. The company is actively seeking to eradicate counterfeiting and is hiring a team of lawyers and special investigative agencies to prosecute offenders through courts around the world. The company spends about half of its communications budget to counter counterfeiting of its goods.
By the 1980s, Vuitton products were widely sold in stores, such as Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. Nowadays Vuitton products are mostly available in company-owned Louis Vuitton boutiques, with a small number of exceptions listed in affluent shopping districts or within luxury stores. This allows the brand to control product quality and prices.
From 1945 to 2000, Louis Vuitton began incorporating leather into most of its products, from small bags, wallets and to suitcases.
The iconic Louis Vuitton bags include the "quick" bag and the "Neverfull" bag. Each season Louis Vuitton produces rare bags, in limited quantities, that are usually only available by reservation at the largest Louis Vuitton stores.
In 2001, Stephen Sprouse, in collaboration with Marc Jacobs, created a limited-edition line of Vuitton bags featuring inscriptions written on the monogram model. The graffiti read Louis Vuitton and, on certain bags, the name of the bag was written (for example: Keepall and Speedy).
In 2002, the Tambour watch collection was introduced. During that year, the LV building in Tokyo's Ginza district opened, and the brand collaborated with Bob Wilson on its Christmas window scenography. In 2004, Louis Vuitton celebrated its 150th anniversary. The brand also inaugurated stores in New York City, Mexico City, Cancun and Johannesburg. She also opened her first global store in Shanghai. In 2008, Louis Vuitton launched the Damier Graphite canvas. This canvas contained the classic Damier model, but in black and gray, giving it a masculine and at the same time urban look. Also in 2008, Pharrell Williams co-designed a series of jewelry accessories and glasses for Louis Vuitton.
Many of the company's products use Damier canvas materials and brown monogram, which were first used in the late 19th century. All company products display the initials LV. In 2010, Louis Vuitton opened what he described as their most luxurious store in London.
Luis Vuitton also produces clothing, as well as shoes, boots, perfumes, etc., both for women and men The well-known brand continues to stand today in the vanguard of world fashion and determine the style and trends of the time.
Louis Vuitton's new clothing collections reflect the somewhat forgotten period of "Belle lepoque". Although relatively short, this period between the late nineteenth century and World War I was one of France's most prestigious. It was the time of the Universal Exhibitions, like the one during which the Eiffel Tower was unveiled.
It was a time of dynamism and extraordinary change. These collections have wanted to bring notions about old fashion and nostalgia for a time that today we can only dream of. It was the time when fashion, art and everywhere would be born what the world knows today as "French elegance".
