The fiscal parameters of public finances are within the forecasts made by the Albanian Government for this year, despite the negative effects that the Albanian economy had from the COVID-19 pandemic.
This was what the Minister of Finance and Economy, Anila Denaj, emphasized during an online meeting with the head of the mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Albania, Yan Sun.
The measures taken by the Albanian Government to cope with the effects of the crisis were effective and directly affected households, the most needy people and economic operators, said Minister Denaj.
Discussions during this meeting focused on macroeconomic and fiscal developments, especially in the context of high risks and uncertainties from the pandemic, as well as on the expectations of the economy for this year and next year.
Special attention was paid to the discussion on public finances, mainly on fiscal expectations, on the realization of this year's budget parameters and expectations for the main elements of next year's budget and the medium term.
During the discussions, the need to return to the downward trajectory of public debt in the medium term, in accordance with the fiscal rules in the organic budget law, as well as on the fiscal risks for the medium term, was stressed by both parties.
The Albanian government in July approved changes to the organic budget law, making it mandatory to maintain a positive primary balance from 2023.
The head of the IMF mission, Yan Sun thanked Minister Denaj for the close cooperation so far of the institution, which she leads.
