Supercomputers could soon receive eight billion euros ($ 9.47 billion) from the European Commission, the EU executive body announced today.
"High-performance computing is an essential digital capacity for Europe," said EC Vice President Margrethe Vestager.
"The technology can be used to fight the new coronavirus pandemic. "For example, supercomputers can help seek therapies and analyze the spread of infection."
The Commission proposed a new regulation to maintain and prioritize Europe's leading role in the field of supercomputers and quantum computing.
