UNITED KINGDOM - "EasyJet" closes three airport centers

Low cost airline EasyJet announced today that it has decided to close three of its 11 airport hubs in the UK, due to the unprecedented impact of the new coronavirus pandemic.

"We had to make a very difficult decision to close three bases in the UK, as a result of the unprecedented impact of the pandemic and the complex travel restrictions posed by quarantine measures in the UK," said Johan Lundgren, EasyJet CEO ”.

"The centers in Stansted and Southend, both near London, in the south-east of England, and the one in Newcastle, in the Northeast, will be closed from 31 August," the company explained.

The airline said it had completed consultations with the Unite union, which represents many of the cabin crew, following an earlier warning to reduce its 15,000 employees to 4,500.
