German Chancellor Angela Merkel once again called for a speedy agreement in Europe on the Recovery Fund, stressing that the road is difficult and that much will be needed to compromise in the European Council on 17 July.
"Faced with the current economic situation, time passes and every day is counted," the chancellor added.
She recalled the need for an agreement as soon as possible, perhaps even during the summer holidays.
"The situation is extraordinary and an extraordinary effort is needed," Merkel reiterated.
"The extraordinary measures proposed by the European Commission are adequate, also because they are time-bound and goal-oriented," she added.
