Nature lovers such as photographers, hunters, employees of organizations, experts but also the general public now have the opportunity to collect data on wildlife, not excluding the reporting of threats to biodiversity through the use of the application "SmartBirds Pro, adapted also in Albanian.
The Association for the Preservation and Protection of the Natural Environment in Albania (PPNEA) states that this application is already in operation in the Albanian language.
The nesting of the black stork (Ciconia nigra) in Albania, reported for the first time by nature lovers, members of the Wildlife group - Albanian Photographers, is a significant example of the great contribution that each of us can make to the growth of knowledge on wildlife in our country ", - emphasizes PPNEA.
"Through the SmartBirds application in the 'Urban Birds' sector we can record all the birds we can hear or see from our homes." The data obtained will be uploaded on a map, which will be displayed each week on the PPNEA website, which will help us all to get to know more about the city birds and those that are trying to get closer to fundi.
The application also allows the collection of data on various threats to biodiversity, such as the disturbance of endangered species and their nests, fires or the use of poisoned baits, the risk of electric shock and collisions with power lines, etc.
The adaptation of the application in Albanian language was realized within the project supported by CEPF, "Land of castles and eagles - Phase II" and the LIFE project "Egyptian Vulture New LIFE".
