In these difficult days of isolation at home, as a result of the pandemic, a good portion of businesses around the world have begun to practice working at home. But what will happen after this situation passes, will work at home be a modern form of employment, or will we return to what we have been accustomed to doing for over a century, that is, working within its environment?
In fact work at home, although currently being applied as a necessity, has several advantages in economic and individual terms. It makes employees organize their time the way they want. They can work at any time of the day or even late at night, at any time they feel productive, even performing several activities at once, turning into "multitasking persons". Employees are closer to their families, especially this is true for young mothers who are always preoccupied with their children when they are away. At the same time, working from home is a saving in the time of employees to come and go to work as well as cost savings such as: formal clothes, appearance in general and especially for women, who must be aesthetically at the right height . This at home work would be significantly reduced. There will also be a reduction in expenses incurred in bars and restaurants during business hours…
Companies, in turn, will reduce the costs of accommodating employees and the costs of equipment and tools, but on the other hand, the employee will not have available tools for performing work such as: a suitable desk or chair.
But, the human being as we know, is a social being and as such it requires socialization, which in the case of work at home, physically loses it.
Will people be able to adapt to loneliness?
On the other hand, communication between people is lost - another very important and necessary element of human beings, as they, losing physical contact, will communicate with each other only through electronic devices, reducing the feelings, which make us so different from other beings.
Also, managers will have to get used to new, alternative methods of work management, not being able to follow the progress of the work step by step, but they will also be able to employ the best talents in their work. regardless of their geographical location.
At home work, in most cases the work is done online where the employer, wanting to control the work, will have access to the personal computer equipment of the employee, causing the latter to lose his privacy and this will undoubtedly bothered them.
In the case of work through the personal equipment of the employee, the question will be raised who will bear the costs of depreciation of these equipment and if they are not borne by the company will be heavy on the employee.
One of the biggest concerns remains the case of employees living in small houses or young families with small children, where concentration at work will be very difficult, not to say in special cases even impossible… And above it all, not all types of work can be performed outside the work environment.
However the pandemic is not the most appropriate time to judge whether the future work trend will be exactly work from home. It seems that this was a mandatory test of humanity and time will tell if this will be the trend or the work within its environment, which ultimately makes people more ambitious, more motivated, more creative and she which is most important with social.
